Located on the sunny and sheltered Rheatic slope, Castione Andevenno is blessed by a favourable climate. Olive trees, oleanders, agaves are grown near palm trees and magnolias. But the undisputed queen is the Nebbiolo grapevine that is the base for renown red wines: Valtellina Superiore DOCG, Riserva DOCG, Sforzato DOCG and Sassella IGT.

The first group of houses was in Andevenno but at the end of the 15th century, because of frequent landslides floods, the inhabitants moved to a higher spot, Castione, where since the year 1000 there were the Larice and Leone castles.

The Church of Saint Roch was built at the end of the 16th century on the remains of the Leone castle, while in Balzarro there is the church of the Nativity of Mary, raised in the Middle Ages and renovated in the 17th century. The plain along Statale 38 now hosts many shops, industrial and artisan businesses.
