The Alpine range that protects Valtellina from cold winds of the North and from the hot-humid ones of the South, the “Breva”, the warm breeze that rises from Lake of Como drying soil and plants, the intense light of the mountain sun have created on the Raetic slope a particular microclimate that favors the vine cultivation. An activity that has reached the maximum expansion in the nineteenth century, with a cultivated area of over 6000 hectares, of which over a third are planted with Nebbiolo.
Today the valley boasts internationally known productions recognized by quality brands: Valtellina Superiore Docg and Sforzato of Valtellina Docg, Rosso di Valtellina Doc and Terrazze Retiche di Sondrio Igt.
