From the 300 m of the valley bottom to the 4050 m of Pizzo Bernina, Sondrio district is rich in landscapes to be discovered, where it is impossible to escape the charm of the varied mountain nature.
The Bosco dei Bordighi Natural Reserve lies near the town of Sondrio and covers an area of about 50 hectares. Here grow and can be observed very ancient or rare plant species, which - thanks to this particular context - avoided extinction.
The Pyramids Natural Reserve in Postalesio aims to protect the natural evolution of the phenomenon of the "earth pyramids", which develop in the presence of a series of particular geological, environmental and climatic factors.
The Parco delle Orobie Valtellinesi strethces itself out on the northern slope of the Orobic Alps, between the provinces of Sondrio, Lecco, Bergamo and Brescia. The high biodiversity of its territory is proven by endemic species, such as the sanguisorba from Valtellina and the violet Comollia and by numerous species of mosses and lichens, that were thought to be extinct in Italy and were recently found in the Park.
The Marmots park in Chiareggio, at the entrance of the village, allows children and adults to admire these cute mountain mammals.
To enhance these spectacular landscapes, different routes have been created, including the Millennial Larch trail in Val Ventina, where years ago was discovered a small area with a group of larches over five hundred years old and a millennial larch (the oldest in Italy) and the glaciological paths, which allow all hikers to approach this wonderful high altitude natural environment, giving them the tools to read the territory in a geomorphological key.
