La Via dei Terrazzamenti - Vineyard Route
Maroggia, Sassella, Grumello, Inferno, Valgella: each of the great wines of the Valtellina region has its own story. Discover them all on the spectacular Via dei Terrazzamenti wine tour, it cross the Rhaetian Alps, a landscape adorned with vineyards and drystone walls.
In the centre lay the province county seat, the city of Sondrio, here and in the villages is possible to find refined piazzas and palazzos, on special occasions and fair, they showcases the best of local gastronomy. The restaurants and bistrot offer on themed menus celebrating local delicacies such as "Pizzoccheri" and "Sciatt", Bresaola Igp and cheeses Dop: Valtellina Bitto and Casera; the best in local wines: Valtellina Superiore Docg and Sforzato Docg, Rosso di Valtellina Doc and Terrazze Retiche Igt di Sondrio.
The Via dei Terrazzamenti is a cycle/pedestrian path of rare beauty, 70 kilometers long, connecting Morbegno to Tirano, the Lower and Middle Valley, at an altitude of between 300 and 700 meters.
On foot or by bicycle, you'll have the opportunity to traverse the most typical area of the Valtellina agricultural landscape, characterized by vineyard terraces but also by historic, artistic, civil, and religious buildings of notable value and interest, churches, prehistoric sites, rural cellars, farm holidays and ancient villages.
40 rest areas with benches and bicycle racks have been created, located in suggestive places immersed in nature, from which you can enjoy the stunning views of Valtellina. The areas are equipped with signs offering information on nearby valuable historical and artistic heritage, easily accessible on foot.
The route is suitable for people of different ages and does not present any particular difficulties.
